MESSAGE OF HOS
In this era of emerging techniques and methods, English Language Teaching goes way beyond the four walls of a classroom. We focus on incorporating eclecticism; we encourage diversity. Our programs represent a broad and changing spectrum of interests, backgrounds, and approaches. We have strength in teaching and research, both of English literature and linguistics. The Department’s graduate programs train students for careers in teaching at varied levels and conducting action research as part of their vocational growth. We provide hands-on training of various computational techniques for further supervised research.
In the mélange of current world affairs and tech-related dilemmas, we consider it as part of our curriculum to develop critical thinking abilities of our learners in the best possible way.
Our faculty is dedicated to implementing teaching of subject-related areas while we work in collaboration with a number of departments to hire professionals for teaching of cognate disciplines, like Statistics and Sociology etc.
Together we offer a variety of vibrant learning experiences, based on strong theoretical foundations.
With this, I would like to welcome you to the School of English Language and Literature!
Dr. Maimoona Abdulaziz
To foster students’ comprehension in the depths of Linguistics and various techniques and theories in literature. It is also to polish the ethical values amongst students keeping pace with the modern techniques.
To cultivate newer understandings of the structure of language in itself as well as the role of language as the medium constituting the link between our mind and the world, our past and present, and our essentially human license to oscillate between facts and thoughts. Also to make the students capable of understanding different theories and criticism on the works of literature with reference to language and other aspects highlighting the various devices differentiating past writings with that of the present ones.
School of English aims to project the critical significance of two parallel and sometimes inseparable disciplines, Linguistics and Literature in English. (SE) at TUF is committed to endorse an enriching research-based pedagogic compound of synchronic and diachronic perspectives on language, with reference to both form and meaning. Similarly, it is also concerned with elusive nuances involved in the experience of aesthetics involving practical applications of these aesthetic principles on the works of literature. Parallel to it School of English is also focused for the students’ understanding of the literature, history and style of writing and techniques in use throughout the ages in the field of English.
School of English Language and Literature is a hub for creative and critical literacy. Our courses blend the premiers of literature and linguistics at graduate level, and proceed with them to post graduate level specialized courses in applied linguistics.
We believe in eclecticism when it comes to teaching, so each course is tailored, reviewed, and monitored according to its potential learners. Our approach towards the process of teaching and learning is untraditional and outcome-based, and often involves various analytical methods for constant evaluation of our courses. Our faculty is trained as teachers and as researchers through a variety of advance training programs inside and outside the campus. Our courses are in sync with the updated curriculum provided by the Higher Education Commission Pakistan.
All in all, the School of English maintains a conducive and friendly atmosphere of teaching and learning, using latest resources, labs, and digital libraries, for its tech-savvy novices.
