AWARENESS SEMINAR NOVEL CORONAVIRUS

Department of Community Medicine, The University of Faisalabad conducted seminar to raise awareness on “Novel Coronavirus (nCoV)” on January 28, 2020.The objective of the seminar was to educate the general public about the emergence of Novel Coronavirus (2019-nCoV) issues especially its transmission and prevention by adopting best hygiene practices. In which various aspects have been discussed related to the introduction of Novel Coronavirus (2019-nCoV), transmission, symptoms, serious complication which can lead to death and possible preventive measures, etc.

 

 
 

 

Prof Dr Zahid Masood, Head Department of Community Medicine, while addressing the faculty and students said that novel coronavirus which is now become a world pendemic is a large family of viruses causing illnesses from common cold to more severe diseases such as Respiratory Syndrome and Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome. He further explained that Coronaviruses cause upper respiratory infections like runny nose, coughing, sore throat, and may be accompanied by fever sometimes. Most people can confuse its symptoms with that of regular cold or flu virus.

Meanwhile, Dr Sumera Shahzad in her address told about the measures to reduce the risk of virus infection; we should clean our hands with water and soap properly when coughing and sneezing cover nose and mouth with a tissue or flexed elbow, avoid close contact with anyone with cold or flu-like symptoms. Always eat thoroughly cook meat and eggs and avoid unprotected contact with wild or farm animals. In more severe cases, the infection can cause pneumonia, severe acute respiratory syndrome, kidney failure and even death, Dr Sumera added.
