TUF Organized Training Workshop on Strength and Conditioning

TUF Organized Training Workshop on Strength and Conditioning

The Department of Rehabilitation Sciences, The University of Faisalabad, organized the Training Workshop on Strength and Conditioning, featuring Dr Syed Muhammad (Founder of IFPA, Master Trainer, and Member of the Strength and Conditioning Society), as the guest speaker. The workshop aimed to enhance participants’ understanding of evidence-based conditioning principles, athletic performance, exercise prescription, and recovery strategies.

During the interactive session, Dr Syed Muhammad discussed the fundamentals of developing a conditioning plan, emphasizing the importance of individual assessment and athlete-specific training programs. He explained the role of the body’s three major energy systems—ATP-PC (Phosphagen), anaerobic glycolytic, and aerobic oxidative systems—in meeting the energy demands of different physical activities. He also highlighted the importance of assessing an athlete’s one-repetition maximum (1RM) to guide resistance training intensity and ensure appropriate exercise prescription according to individual capacity.

The speaker further elaborated on the SAID principle, explaining that training programs should be tailored to the specific demands of a sport and the athlete’s performance goals. He discussed the relationship between training volume and intensity, the selection of sets and repetitions, and the importance of determining training frequency according to the athlete’s fitness level and recovery needs. The session also highlighted the role of central nervous system recovery, adequate rest intervals, and progressive training loads in optimizing performance while minimizing the risk of injury.

Additionally, He discussed practical considerations in strength development, including the importance of rest days, appropriate weekly training frequency, and recovery following musculoskeletal injuries. He explained the differences between strains and sprains and emphasized the importance of understanding tissue healing and rehabilitation principles when planning a safe return to physical activity. The workshop provided a valuable learning opportunity for participants to connect theoretical concepts with practical applications in sports conditioning, athletic performance, and rehabilitation. The session reinforced the importance of individualized, evidence-based training strategies in promoting physical fitness, improving performance, and reducing injury risk.

The workshop concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr Marium Zafar; PT (Head Department of Rehabilitation Sciences), who expressed gratitude to the guest speaker for sharing his valuable expertise and enriching participants’ learning experience. The workshop supported SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being) through the promotion of safe exercise and injury prevention, and SDG 4 (Quality Education) by strengthening professional knowledge and practical competencies in strength and conditioning.
