Study Tour of Nursing Students to Punjab Institute of Mental Health
Sixth-semester students of BSN from the School of Nursing at The University of Faisalabad conducted an educational study tour to the Punjab Institute of Mental Health (PIMH) in Lahore as part of their Mental Health Nursing course. Led by faculty members Ms Nida Rahat, Ms Eesha Liaqat, and Ms Merab Zia, the clinical visit exposed future nursing professionals to specialized psychiatric care and therapeutic patient management.
During the facility tour, students visited outpatient and inpatient units, emergency departments, and specialized wards, including male addiction treatment units and female psychiatric wards. The cohort engaged with healthcare professionals, including Head Nursing representative Ms. Javaida, psychiatrists, and clinical staff, to observe psychiatric treatment modalities, medication safety protocols, and therapeutic rehabilitation activities such as patient-created arts and crafts.
The study tour bridged classroom theory with real-world clinical practice, focusing on therapeutic nurse-patient communication, ethical considerations in mental healthcare, and holistic management of psychiatric disorders. Faculty coordinators emphasized that hands-on institutional visits remain essential for strengthening clinical competence and fostering empathetic, comprehensive patient care.
