Seminar on “Safe Medication Practices to Prevent Clinical Errors”
The School of Nursing at The University of Faisalabad organized an academic seminar titled "Safe Medication Practices: Preventing Medication Errors Through Education". The session focused on training third-semester BSN students in error-free drug administration to enhance patient safety across clinical environments.
The seminar covered all critical stages of the medication-use process, from prescribing and preparation to administration, monitoring, and documentation. Faculty members highlighted key risk factors that contribute to clinical mistakes, including communication gaps, calculation errors, staff fatigue, high workload, and confusion surrounding look-alike, sound-alike (LASA) drugs.
A core component of the training emphasized strict adherence to the fundamental "Rights of Medication Administration"—ensuring the right patient, medication, dose, route, time, and documentation. Through educational presentations, visual poster displays, role-playing exercises, and case discussions, students reviewed standard safety protocols for high-alert drugs, such as insulin and anticoagulants, alongside best practices for intravenous administration.
The event concluded with a strong call for continuous professional education, structured team communication, and transparent incident reporting to establish a proactive culture of safety in healthcare settings.
