Administration of the University of Faisalabad has always been instrumental in promoting research culture in the institution. As a part of Professional Development Plan (PDP), a day long workshop on using SPSS in basic & clinical research” was organized on 17^th May 2012 for the faculty of University Medical & Dental College and faculty of the University of Faisalabad.  SPSS is an important analytical tool in research. However, its application needs in depth knowledge and on hand training of this software. Both objectives were achieved in the workshop. Participants from departments of Medicine, Gynecology, Orthopedics, Urology, Pathology, Physiology, Pharmacology, Biochemistry, ENT, Ophthalmology, Psychiatry, Forensic Medicine, Community Medicine, Prosthodondics, Community Dentistry, Management Sciences and QEC learnt the practical application of this software. In the last session all participants were able to enter their own data and applied the SPSS and successfully interpreted their attributes using their own laptops. Mr Salman Bashir, consultant Biostatistician from Karachi facilitated the workshop. Professor Dr Faqir Hussain Khan, an eminent research scholar and Dean Faculty of Health Sciences The University of Faisalabad was the Chief Guest. In his address he congratulated Department of Community Medicine for organizing a very useful workshop. He added that this workshop has long term implications in both basic and clinical research. He emphasized all the participants to keep practicing this software to get full command. Concluding the session Dr Zahid Masood Head department of Community Medicine announced that a two days workshop on “Research Methodology” will be organized in September 2012.
