Program
Textile is the leading Industry of Pakistan in terms of foreign exchange earnings, and direct and indirect employment. It is a diverse sector and is constantly changing in response to the demands of the local and global market trends. During the past few years, the sector has undergone a large scale restructuring, resulting in growth of garments, knitting and allied industries generating employment opportunities in these areas. However, despite of abundance of raw material, huge investments in this sector and diversity of products, we are still lagging behind our regional competitors on account of quality and weak marketing strategy. It is, therefore, imperative that teaching and training programs be geared up to address these issues.

The University of Faisalabad provides comprehensive training to meet various challenges in the industry. The holding of seminars and panel discussions by inviting experts through Small and Medium Enterprises Development Authority (SMEDA), National Productivity Organization (NPO) and the industry in various areas of textiles manufacturing is a regular feature of the Department. This interaction is extremely useful for the development of faculty as well as students. The University of Faisalabad offers a four year Degree of Bachelor of Engineering in Textile. This is a successful program as in its sixth year of program offering, three batches have already been placed successfully in the industry. The degree is accredited by Pakistan Engineering Council (PEC).
Objectives
The diverse nature of textile materials, their manufacturing processes and applications require expertise in engineering, physical sciences and electronics. This dynamic industry also requires technical managers who fully understand the new technologies. The University of Faisalabad regularly reviews the various teaching programs to meet the requirements of the industry and business. The four year degree program is designed to provide comprehensive training in the core areas of Textiles, i.e. Manufacturing of Yarn, Fabrics, Garments, Coloration, Finishing, Quality Control and Management. After graduation, the students are expected to become competent professionals having confidence to work in the industry independently.
Program Structure
The program of Bachelor of Textile Engineering comprises theory and practical in textile core subjects, basic engineering and physical sciences. Sufficient emphasis has been laid on teaching of Humanities and English. The weight age given to various subjects is as per guidelines provided by HEC. Students are required to appear in mid and final semesters examinations and final merit is determined on the basis of these examinations assignments, quizzes results. In order to have hands on experience, final year students are also sent to various textile units for internship which is also a major requirement for completion of the degree program. In addition to this, study visits to different industrial units are also arranged on regular basis for junior classes.
