REGULATIONS CONCERNING ENROLLMENT AND
EXAMINATIONS
Duration and Requirements of the Courses/Semester
-There will be 2 semesters in each year, Fall and Spring,
of 19 weeks each. The commencement of semesters shall be
regulated by the Academic Council.
-There will also be a summer session of 8
to 10 weeks each year as part of an academic year which shall be
optional. Students, who desire to take up failed courses, may
enroll during this session. It shall not count towards
residential requirements.
-One credit hour of a course means one
hour lecture per week for 15-16 teaching weeks. Thus a 3 credit
hours course means 3 hours of teaching per week during the
semester. For practical, 2 hours of lab work is equal to 1
credit hour. Similarly for field work or project 6 or 4 hours
are considered equal to one credit hour.
Examinations
Tests and Examinations
-There shall be two examinations for each course during each
semester. These examinations shall be termed mid-semester and
final. In addition to these examinations the teacher shall give
home assignments, term papers, quizzes, etc. The grade given in
the course by the teacher shall be final
-The mid-semester examination shall be held during 9th
week
of the semester which shall carry 30 per
cent of the total marks allocated for the course.
-In addition, quizzes, special home
assignments etc shall carry 20 per cent of the total marks
allocated which shall be split over the whole semester. The
final examination to be held at the end of the semester shall
carry 50 per cent of the total marks.
-The mid as well as final examinations
are not retaken. However, in unavoidable circumstances such as
death of family member, severe health problem or on accident a
student may be allowed to appear in the examination according to
the date/time decided by Head of Department. The Rector may /
may not allow to sit in the examination depending on the
authenticity of his/her request.
Explanation
-At the end of a semester a Master degree
student must obtain a minimum grade point average (G.P.A.) of
1.8 to be promoted to the next semester.
-A Bachelor degree student must have atleast
1.5 grade point average at the end of a semester for promotion
to next semester.
-A candidate must enroll and repeat all the
courses of the unpromoted semester except those courses in which
he secured A or B grades. The unpromoted semester will not be
counted in the residential requirement (duration) of the degree
program.
-A student will be required to repeat the
failed courses of the previous promoted semesters at the first
available opportunity provided that his/her maximum work load
does not exceed the permissible work load.
-A student who fails to obtain CGPA of 2.20
for Bachelor, 2.50 for Master, 2.75 for M.Phil and 3.00 for Ph.D
degree upon the completion of entire approved course work, may
be allowed to repeat once the courses of the previous semesters
in which he/she had obtained the lowest grades, in order to
improve the CGPA so as to obtain the minimum of 2.20 and 2.50
for Bachelor and Master degree respectively. Otherwise he/she
shall cease to be on the rolls of the University.
Grade Point Average

The marks obtained by a candidate in each
course are converted out of 100. These marks are changed into
grade points and letter grades according to the following
criterion.

Semester (GPA) = Sum (Credit Hours x
Grade Points of Credit Hours)
Sum of credit hours of enrolled courses
(CGPA) is the overall GPA of current as
well as previous semesters.
CGPA = Sum (Credit Hours x GPA for each
semester)
Sum of Credit Hours for all completed semesters
Comprehensive Examination
-All MBA/BBA candidates shall have to pass a comprehensive
examination which will comprise of two papers out of core
courses as decided by Board of Studies of the department. The
pass marks in each paper is 50%. Comprehensive examination may
be held once in each semester.
